Loading Paper In Tray 1
Caution: If you change the type of paper in a tray, you
must change the paper type and size on the
front panel to match the paper that you
loaded. If you fail to do this, print-quality
problems can occur and the fuser can be
damaged.
Pull the tray completely out of the printer.
If loading paper having a different width or length, adjust the width and length guides.
Extend the tray to accommodate legal or US Folio (legal 13) paper by moving the release
tabs to the sides of the tray and pulling out on the front of the tray. Contract the tray by
moving the release tabs to the sides of the tray and pushing in the front of the tray.
Load the paper, transparencies, or other specialty media in the tray. Do not load above the indicated fill line.
Note: Do not load paper, transparencies, or specialty media above the indicated fill lines inside the
tray. Only use flat paper, transparencies, or specialty media. If frequent jamming
occurs with card stock or heavier paper that is less than 175 mm (7 in.) long, reduce
the number of sheets in the tray.
Slide the side guide firmly against the paper or other specialty media.
Insert the tray into the printer slot, and push it completely to the back of the printer.
Confirm or change the paper size and type when prompted by the front panel.
Select Force Printer to print from specific tray, then choose Tray 1.
Note: Although the option to print to a specific tray is available, in most cases it is recommended to select Let printer select which tray to print from. This will allow the printer to print from any tray that has the specified document size and paper type selected in step 4 above.
Windows 98 or Windows Millennium(ME)
Select File, then select Print.
Click the Properties button.
Select the Setup tab.
Select Force printer to print from specific tray, then choose Tray 1.
Note: Although the option to print to a specific tray is available, in most cases it is recommended to select Let printer select which tray to print from and then select the correct document size and paper type. This will allow the printer to print from any tray that has the specifed document size and paper type.
Windows NT
Select File, then select Print.
Select Properties.
Select the Paper/Quality tab.
Select the correct document size and paper type.
Select Force printer to print from specific tray, then choose Tray 1.

From the All pages from drop-down menu, select Tray 1.

Select the correct paper type loaded in Tray 1 from the Paper Types: drop-down menu.

Mac OS X (10.1 and later)
Select File, then select Print.
Click the Copies and Pages drop-down menu, then select Paper Feed.
From the All pages from drop-down menu, select Tray 1.
Click Printer Features from the Paper Feed drop-down menu.
Select the correct paper type loaded in Tray 1 from the Paper Types: drop-down menu.

Loading Custom Size Paper in Trays 1-4
Pull the tray completely out of the printer.
Insert custom size paper into Tray 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Note: Do not load paper, transparencies, or specialty media above the fill lines inside the
tray. Only use flat paper, transparencies, or specialty media. If frequent jamming
occurs with card stock or heavier paper that is less than 175 mm (7 in.) long, reduce
the number of sheets in the tray.
Adjust the width and length paper guides to match the size of the paper.
Insert the tray into the printer tray slot and push it completely to the back of the printer.
At the printer’s front panel:
Select Change Paper Size, then press the OK button.
Select Custom, then press the OK button.
Custom Width is highlighted. Press the OK button, press the Down Arrow button
to change the width, then press the OK button to save your change.
Select Custom Height, then press the OK button.
Press the Down Arrow button to change the height, then press the OK button to save
your change.
Press the Back button.
Select Paper Type, then press the OK button.
Select the type of paper loaded in the tray, then press the OK button to save your
selection.
In the printer driver, select the appropriate tray and paper type as the paper source.
From the application's File menu, select Print.
Select the Properties button.
Select the Paper/Quality tab.
Select the My Custom Sizes button located near the bottom of the window.
Click the New button.
Provide a name for the custom size, then enter the desired width and height.
Click the Save button, then click Close to return to the Paper/Quality tab.
From the Document Size drop-down list, select the custom size that was just created.
Select the appropriate paper type from the Paper Type drop-down list.
Select Let Printer select which tray to print from (Recommended).
If using the local service provider website, please perform the following steps:
Enter your zip code in the space provided.
Choose a mileage distance. The search will locate a Service Provider within the specified range if available.
Click Go. The web site will return a list of Authorized Service Providers (ASP) with their company name, address, phone number, and fax number.
Note:
The list of Authorized Service Providers will include the printer models the company is qualified to service. Be sure to select a repair facility that is authorized to repair your printer model.
